A while back a fellow modeler and I developed a vacuum forming machine and kit of parts to make plastic canopies for our kits. Later I drew up plans for the vacuum table and frame and they were published along with an article in Flying Models. Here is the finished machine assembly isometric drawing and if any one is interested, we do offer plans to make this very effective tool at low cost and can also provide a list of plastics dealers nationwide where you can purchase the material.
Plans include measured drawings of all of the components shown here, along with a complete hardware list, and option for a two-stage vacuum for pulling more intricate parts. All items are easily made in the shop with readily available tools and hardware store or home improvement center materials including 3/4" plywood, 1/4" plywood and masonite pegboard, drywall screws, wood screws, carriage bolts and nuts and 3/4" copper pipe and fittings to mount the heat source and act as a slide for the vacuum frame. You will need a circlular saw and straightedge guide (or table saw), hole saw, drill, bits, countersink, yellow glue and screw drivers to complete.
