With the 1-23 in quarter scale delivered for beta cutting this week, I've moved back on to the 1-26E quarter scale kit. This is an enlargement of the fuselage from the 1:5 scale 1-26E that's been in production for four years now and includes wings used on the 1:4 scale SA 1-30 powered utitility plane from Schweizer.
The SA 1-30 used a 1-26 fuselage modified in the foreward section to accept a low mounted 1-26 wing and tails, and a Cub cowl over a standard four cylinder aircraft engine up front. The landing gear was from a Cessna 170. I had developed the stronger wing for the quarter scale powered 1-26 with closer rib spacing so parts were nearly ready to go.
Much of the work was done over the last year, and now it's time to finish up the details, and check and complete the plans and parts. The horizontal and vertical tails will be built in the same way as both of the small E models but I am contemplating using the sheeted flange-gusset process that was used on the composite kits and offered as an option on the woodies. I hope to have everything wrapped up and ready to cut in a couple of weeks and then move on to a gull wing design, a type that I've never tackled before.
